Memories

James A. Fenton, 61, passed away peacefully in his home on July 26,2021.  He was born at Kaiser Hospital in Hollywood, California on September 16, 1959. James was the son of Margorie L. Fenton and James A. Fenton.

James had a diversified range of work experiences that centered around architectural design as well as business management to include 20 years of Property Management. One of James’ early accomplishments in this area is the development of a residential screening database and company, Apartment Credit Resources, which still helps Property Managers create profiles for prospective tenants.

It’s easy to see how James’ lifelong love of architecture, design, and their elements, along with his vivid imagination fed his passion for creating some truly spectacular custom homes. The breadth of experiences James had in his lifetime certainly transferred over to his design work. He knew what questions to ask and learned to read between the lines. Each of his custom designed homes were specific to each individual client’s wishes. While much of his work centered around residential design, he designed several commercial projects and helped with the construction management of 2 churches and a few other business service companies as well.

When I die, give what’s left of me away…. And if you need to cry, cry for your brother walking the street beside you. And when you need me, put your arms around anyone and give them what you need to give me. I want to leave you something, something better than words or sounds. Look for me in the people I’ve known or loved, and if you cannot give me away, at least let me live in your eyes and not in your mind. You can love me best by letting hands touch hands, and by letting go of[those]that need to be free.

Love doesn’t die, people do. So, when all that’s left of me is love, give me away.

-from Meditations before Kaddish

While James had a successful career in design, some of his most cherished and fond memories were centered around supporting his good friend, Ron Rose in West Hollywood, California with his humanitarian efforts to advocate for gay rights in the 1980s. James was involved in Ron's ‘Being Alive’ gay support group and was a founding participant and contributing organizer for the first 2 years of The Candlelight Walk for Aids.

Not only did James love designing in his professional career, but he loved spending his free time designing house boats and creating some truly spectacular Lego designs. Check the Lego Designs link (coming soon) to see some of James’ work and dedication!

James wanted to specially acknowledge a few loved ones. Nothing to share out-loud, but you each know what you meant to James …

Stephen, Bonnie Frank, Donna, Joni & Dianna

James is survived by his mother, Margorie Loraine Fenton; sister, Debby Fenton and (step) brother, Mitchell James Fenton.  He is preceded in death by his Father, James A. Fenton.

Services pending…

In lieu of flowers, James asked that you do an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness for someone in his name.

James was a man of strong conviction. He was determined, if he got something in his head, he was going to follow through; outspoken, he was not afraid to advocate for himself and most especially for others; and straightforward, you never had to guess what was on his mind. He had his opinions but was open to discussion and could admit if he had a change of heart. He expressed his love not only with words, but actions. He had an unyielding faith that carried him through this life and into the next. His infectious optimism, chuckle, and countenance – cheerful and occasionally otherwise 😊, will be immeasurably missed.

 - Godspeed, James
